Local economic development (LED) is a relatively new mandate for local government. It refers to a process aimed at unlocking and tapping onto the latent economic development opportunities for local benefit in a sustainable manner. Although LED targets economic development opportunities, it encompasses various different elements such as analysis, implementation facilitation and capacity building.
